This information has been given in the monthly report of the social media company. Under the new Information Technology (IT) rules that came into force last year, digital platforms with over five million users are required to publish compliance reports every month. This report contains details of complaints and action taken on them.
According to the latest report, between March 1 and 31, 2022, WhatsApp has banned 18.05 lakh Indian accounts for being misused.
Indian accounts were identified through +91 phone numbers.
A WhatsApp spokesperson said, “As mentioned in the latest monthly report, the company has banned more than 18 lakh accounts in the month of March.”
It is noteworthy that in February, 14.26 lakh Indian accounts were banned by META-owned WhatsApp.
