Vedanta Aluminum to buy 380 MW of renewable energy for its smelter

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) Vedanta Aluminum will buy 380 MW of renewable energy for its smelter on a long-term basis.

Vedanta said on Monday that this will help the company reduce carbon emissions by the equivalent of 15,00,000 tonnes annually.

According to the company, it will be procured through a power distribution agreement between Vedanta Limited and a special entity (a unit of Sterlite Power Technologies) of Sterlite Power Technologies Private Limited (SPTPL).

Vedanta said the company will use 180 MW of renewable energy for Jharsuguda aluminum smelter in Odisha and 200 MW for Bharat Aluminum Company (BALCO) at Korba in Chhattisgarh.
