Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Haryana, Odisha, Jharkhand have not yet floated tender for coal import: Ministry

New Delhi, May 5 (PTI) The power ministry on Thursday said that Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Haryana, Odisha and Jharkhand have neither floated nor floated any tender to ensure supply of coal to their thermal power plants. Only special steps have been taken.

In a statement, the ministry also advised states to import coal for blending so that coal reaches power plants this month.

In a meeting chaired by Power Minister RK Singh to review the power crisis, it was informed that Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are in the process of issuing tender for import of coal.

“However, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand have not yet floated tender for import of coal or taken any significant step in this direction to ensure supply of coal to their plants,” the statement said. “

The progress of transportation of allocated coal was also reviewed in this meeting. The ministry said the progress of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on the offtake of allocated coal is not satisfactory.

According to the ministry, these states were asked to expedite the offtake of this coal. If this does not happen, then this coal will be given to other power generating companies.

Power Secretary Alok Kumar, senior officials of state governments and representatives of power companies were present in this ‘online’ meeting.

Singh also reviewed the status of coal imported from abroad for adulteration with domestic coal in power plants. “The states were advised to import coal for blending so that the surplus coal reaches the power plants from the month of May 2022,” the ministry said.

According to the Central Electricity Authority, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have placed coal import orders while Punjab and Gujarat are in the tendering stage. At the same time, other states need to make special efforts for this.
