UPSC Results 2021: Shruti Sharma, who topped the Civil Services Examination, got 54.56 percent marks, Union Public Service Commission gave information

New DelhiShruti Sharma, who topped the prestigious Civil Services Examination-2021 (UPSC Results 2021), conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the selection of public servants in the country, has secured 54.56 percent marks. At the same time, Ankita Agarwal, who stood second, got 51.85 percent marks. According to the results announced by the commission on Monday, a total of 685 candidates cleared the exam, including 508 male and 177 female.

The Civil Services Examination is conducted every year by UPSC in three phases – preliminary, main and interview – to select officers for other services including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service and Indian Police Service. The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of objective type (multiple choice) questions and carries a maximum of 400 marks. This stage is meant to serve as a screening test only, and the marks secured in this test are not used in determining the final merit of the candidates declared qualified for the main examination. Merit is determined out of a total of 2,025 marks – written or main exam is of 1,750 marks and interview is of 275 marks.

According to the marks declared by UPSC for the students who cleared the exam, Sharma got a total of 1,105 marks out of which 932 were for the written (main) exam and 173 for the interview. According to the commission, Agarwal got a total of 1,050 marks, including 871 in written and 179 in interview.

Gamini Singla, who got the third position, got 1045 marks. 858 in writing and 187 in interview. Aishwarya Verma, who finished fourth, got a total of 1,039 marks. He was given 860 marks in the written test and 179 in the interview. Utkarsh Dwivedi, who secured fifth position in this examination, got a total of 1,036 marks. He got 871 marks in written test and 165 marks in interview.

Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination-2021 was held on October 10, 2021. A total of 10,93,984 candidates had applied for this exam out of which 5,08,619 candidates appeared. As many as 9,214 candidates had appeared for the written (main) examination held in January this year. A total of 1,824 candidates had qualified for the personality test (interview) of the exam. Out of a total of 685 successful candidates, 244 are from the general category, 73 from the economically weaker sections, 203 from the other backward classes, 105 from the scheduled castes and 60 from the scheduled tribes.
