New Delhi: The Supreme Court has ordered to run the state government’s anti-encroachment drive in Uttar Pradesh as per the rules. The top court, while hearing the petition filed by Jamaat Ulema-e-Hind to stop the encroachment campaign, has given the state government three days to file an affidavit. The Supreme Court did not accede to the petitioner’s demand to stop the operation in this case and sought a response from the state government on the alleged use of bulldozers to ‘demolish’ the houses of stone-pelting accused.

suHearing in Prem’s vacation bench
While hearing the vacation bench of Justin S Bopanna and Justice Vikram Nath, the state government has sought a reply regarding the recent encroachment drive. The top court said that any action should be taken according to the rules. Significantly, the UP government demolished the house of Javed Ahmed Pump, the mastermind of the Prayagraj violence.

Answer sought from UP government in 3 days

The UP government has been given three days to file its reply on petitions alleging illegal demolition of houses of accused in the Prayagraj violence last week. The court asked the UP government to strictly follow the process of law in removing unauthorized structures. The Supreme Court said that everything should look fair and the alleged unauthorized structures should be demolished only in accordance with the law.

UP government’s argument, notice was given in May itself

The UP government opposed the petition of Jamaat Ulema-e-Hind. Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the UP government, said that the main accused in the Prayagraj violence was issued a notice in May itself before this violence. On May 25, the order for removal of encroachment was passed.
