INS SURAT

The 15B class ships are the next-generation stealth guided missile destroyers of the Indian Navy, being built at Mazagon Docks Limited, Mumbai. ‘INS SURAT’ is the fourth ship of Project 15B destroyers to begin the makeover of P15A (Kolkata class) destroyers.

INS UDAYGIRI

The ship is named after a mountain range in the state of Andhra Pradesh. INS Udaygiri is the third ship of Project 17A frigates. The ships are a follow-on to the P17 frigates (Shivalik class) with improved stealth features, advanced weaponry and sensor and platform management systems.

‘INS Udaygiri’ is a reincarnation of the erstwhile ‘Udaygiri’, the Leander class ASW frigate, which was used in several challenging operations over the three decades in its service from 18 February 1976 to 24 August 2007. A total of seven ships are under construction with 04 at MDL and 03 at GRSE under the P17A programme.
