New Delhi. Considering the increasing demand for CNG and electric vehicles, Hyundai and Kia are also planning to launch several new CNG cars in the Indian market. Korean automaker Kia will launch CNG variants of its popular compact SUV and MPV in the country.
KIA SONET CNG
Kia has started testing the CNG variant of the Sonnet sub-4 meter SUV in India. It will be offered with the CNG option of the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. The Sonet CNG will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Its engine generates 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. However, there could be a slight drop in the power and torque outputs of the Sonet CNG. It will compete with the soon-to-be-launched new Maruti Brezza.
HYUNDAI VENUE CNG
Like the Kia Sonnet CNG, the Hyundai Venue compact SUV will also be offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit. It is likely to be offered in a powertrain configuration similar to the Sonnet CNG. The small SUV will get a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a factory fitted CNG kit. This vehicle will offer slightly less power and torque than the regular variant.
KIA CARENS CNG
Kia has started testing the CNG variant of the Carens three row MPV in the Indian market. Kia has opted for the 1.4-litre turbo petrol for the CNG option. The Carencer is also offered with the 1.5L NA petrol engine; However, this engine may prove to be weak for 6-7 passengers with luggage.
