Textile, apparel exports rise to $29.8 billion in April-December

New Delhi, Jan 12 (PTI) Textile and apparel exports, including handicrafts, in the country rose to $29.8 billion during the first nine months of the current fiscal, April-December. The figure was $21.2 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal. This information has been given in a government statement on Wednesday.

The Textiles Ministry said, “The textile sector has consistently maintained a trade surplus position with exports many times higher than imports. There was a slowdown in textile exports in the year 2020-21 due to the pandemic disrupting the supply chain and demand.

The ministry said the government has set a target of $44 billion for exports of textiles and apparel, including handicrafts, and 67 per cent of this has already been achieved.

“The last quarter of the financial year always has more activity than the previous quarters,” the statement said. The industry is hopeful that the targets will be achieved.
