Former India head coach Ravi Shastri heaped praise on Keegan Pietersen, saying the South African batsman reminded him of the great Gundappa Viswanath. Pietersen proved to be a key member of the South African team that thrashed India 2-1 in the recently concluded Test series.
Keegan Pietersen scored two fifties in the third Test in Cape Town and was named player of the match as well as player of the series. “Keegan Pietersen (KP). Excellent player. Becoming a great world player. Seeing him reminds me of my childhood hero Gundappa Viswanath,” Shastri tweeted.
Right-handed Gudappa Viswanath is considered one of the best batsmen of his era and played 91 Tests and 25 ODIs for India. Vishwanath used to make excellent use of the wrist while playing the square cut, which is also reflected in the 28-year-old Pietersen.
Significantly, Keegan Pietersen scored 276 runs in 6 innings of the three-match Test series against India, which included 3 half-centuries.
