Praveen Khandelwal resigns from ONDC advisory council

New Delhi, Jan 15 (PTI) Praveen Khandelwal, general secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAT), a traders’ body, has resigned from the ONDC advisory council. CAT gave this information on Saturday. Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has been formed to empower e-commerce.

The council will suggest measures to the government regarding the design and rapid adoption of ONDC.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has taken up the ONDC project. Through this the entire value chain will be digitised.

In a statement, CAIT said that Khandelwal has resigned from the ONDC Advisory Council to avoid morality and conflict of interest.

Khandelwal, in his resignation letter to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, said, “Since ONDC will soon start operating as an e-commerce platform, it is my view that I continue as a member of the Advisory Council on Ethics. Because CAIT is soon going to start its own e-commerce portal ‘Bharat E Market’.

He has mentioned in the letter that Nandan Nilekani of Infosys is backing Amazon while Adil Jainulbhai is on the board of Reliance. Nilekani and Jainulbhai are among the members of the council.
