Question number 1- Where did the school staff go after the meeting?
Usually, after the school assembly, the teachers go to their respective classes, where studies start with their attendance. When that unknown person entered the class of that government school in East Delhi with dirty intentions, there was no teacher there. Had there been someone, such an incident would not have happened.
Question number 2- Why try to suppress the matter?
The matter was not taken up by the school administration but by the Delhi Commission for Women. The guardian of a girl child had also complained to the police. There are allegations that when the girl students informed the principal and the teacher about this incident, they asked them to keep quiet and forget. Why so? Such incidents should not happen to any child or child. It is being demanded that action should be taken against those who try to hide the matter under the POCSO Act.
Question number 3- Why were there no CCTV cameras?
Police investigation revealed that no CCTV cameras were installed at the entry gate and premises of the school. Students up to class five study in the schools of the civic body. Why were CCTVs not installed even after instructions? Whatever the reason, but had a CCTV camera installed and it was being monitored, then that giant could have been caught. The Delhi Commission for Women has also said that if the school does not have CCTV cameras, the Eastern Corporation Commissioner will have to explain the reasons and whether any proposal to install CCTV cameras is pending before the civic body.
Question No. 4- Why there was no guard, why was the main gate not closed?
Normally the gates of the schools are locked from inside and till the time classes are held, no person can enter without permission. East Delhi Mayor Shyam Sundar Agarwal has also admitted that there has been a lapse in the school. He said that we are getting the incident investigated and strict action will be taken against the culprits. But will it be easy to normalize the mood of the children in that class so quickly?
On the question of the guard, the mayor mentions money. Agarwal said that a guard is on night duty. The municipal corporation is struggling with money crunch, so it is difficult to deploy security personnel throughout the day. Parents are concerned that if there is such a financial crunch, then the school should be closed or alternative arrangements for money should be made.
Question number 5- What will be the action on the class teacher and principal?
In such cases it is often seen that the matter remains hot till the media follow up or say 2-4 days and later the school administration puts the matter in cold storage citing its investigation. Parents have demanded on social media that the responsibility of the principal and class teacher should be fixed for the safety of the children in the school’s boundary wall. Whether it is a case of sudden children falling ill, strict action should be taken on an incident like assault or Bhajanpura.
Delhi Police has informed that a case has been registered regarding sexual harassment of girls in East Delhi Municipal Corporation school in Bhajanpura. The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to the police and EDMC in this regard. Sketch has been prepared to trace the suspect and two have been identified. A senior police official said they have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and special teams have been formed to nab the accused.
