When the Prime Minister’s house phone rang, Principal Secretary Brijesh Mishra immediately picked up the phone. Home Minister LK Advani was also wiping tears from his eyes on the other side. America became very strict about this and many types of sanctions were imposed on India. But India didn’t care and conducted two more tests once on 13th May at Pokhran.

The President of the United States at that time was Bill Clinton. In fact, in 1995 itself, America came to know that India was preparing to conduct nuclear tests and it was also continuously keeping an eye on India through satellite. Now India had also joined the list of nuclear-rich countries. National Technology Day is celebrated across the country since this nuclear test started on 11 May.
