More recently, research firm CounterPoint announced that Qualcomm has unquestionably dominated the mobile processor market when it comes to money. However, a new report from the same company shows that in unit terms, the situation looks somewhat different.
According to the information provided, in the first quarter of 2022, MediaTek became the largest manufacturer of mobile processors with a market share of 38%. It is important to note that the Taiwanese company has held the lead for the seventh quarter in a row. Qualcomm is in second place with a 30% share. Apple also got into the top three with its 15%, which can be considered an impressive result, since its chips are used only in branded devices, while other manufacturers produce their products for a variety of brands. Next on the list are Chinese Unisoc (11%), Samsung (5%) and HiSilicon (HUAWEI) with about 1% of the market.
The CounterPoint report also provides statistics on the US market from April 2021 to April 2022. As you can see, over the year MediaTek managed to increase its share from 30% to 45%, but Qualcomm is rapidly losing its leadership position.
