KHL canceled all matches from 15 to 21 January


The Kontinental Hockey League has decided to cancel all matches scheduled for January 15-21 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The leadership of the KHL decided in this way to stop the outbreak in the league. Reportedly, as of January 12, the number of players, coaches and team representatives who tested positive for coronavirus amounted to 171 people, of which 124 are hockey players, the increase over the past day was 60 people.

“Due to the rapid growth in the number of cases in clubs, the high contagiousness of the virus, the league decided to postpone the game days of January 15, 17, 19 and 21 to later dates, which the league will announce later,” the KHL website said in a statement.

The head of the KHL, Alexei Morozov, said that the league’s priority remains the health of players and fans. He added that in the next three days, matches will be played with the participation of teams that do not experience a deterioration in the epidemiological situation.

It is expected that canceled matches can be played during Olympic Games in Beijing… The updated calendar will be presented before the end of the month.
