JK Tire has completed four decades of its motorsport journey. The team has announced its plans for 2022. On this occasion, rally driver and Arjuna Awardee Gaurav Gill announced his participation in the World Rally Championship 2022. Three time APRC (Asia Pacific Rally Championship) champion and seven time INRC (Indian National Rally Championship) champion are all set to take part in WRC Safari rally to be held in Kenya from 23rd to 26th June. Gill, along with Brazil’s co-driver Gabriele Morales, will out on the Skoda Fabia R5 in WRC2 with 290hp and max 425Nm of torque. One of the most challenging rallies of the WRC, the safari consists of 19 special stages, covering a challenging 365 km journey through dusty roads, rough terrains and unpredictable weather. During this time the weather can take a form that turns dry, dusty roads into muddy trails.
Gill made his last outing before the pandemic at the 2019 Turkey Rally on WRC2, where he was applauded despite missing out on a win. At the same time, his outing in Australia’s rally was canceled at the last minute due to a massive forest fire in Coffs Coast, New South Wales.
Sanjay Sharma, Head of Motorsports, JK Tire said, “JK Tire has always been at the forefront of promoting motorsport in India. The company has played a significant role in promoting motorsport culture at home and abroad by setting up tracks and infrastructure across the country.
