The primary goal towards implementing the National Education Policy is that every household in the country should have access to education. It is also our priority to provide skill and employable education to the students. UGC is emphasizing on the use of digital technology along with the use of existing infrastructure (university-college) in the country so that both go together and students get good education opportunities.
UGC has prepared a new framework for evaluation of students. How much will it benefit?
The UGC has prepared the National Higher Education Qualification Framework and simplified the credit system. There is variety of courses in different universities and colleges. You do not get the same weightage if you go to another institute or course. Keeping this in mind, UGC has prepared such a framework, under which 5 to 10 levels are being reduced to 4.5 to 8 levels. Now it will also be easier for students to take admission in dual degree courses. There will be a framework in which students can easily shift. Like schools, in higher education too, there will be an assessment every year as a learning outcome. There will be 1 to 4 level from nursery to college. Going to the first year of college in graduation, there will be 4.5 level. If for some reason you are not able to continue with your studies, you can take a certificate. This credit will keep on adding up. After continuing with studies, in the second year it will be level 5 and you will get a diploma. Similarly, credits will be available on studies till PhD.
Digital University is also one of the dream project of UGC, what is the preparation for it?
A blueprint for a digital university has been prepared. Digital University will start the first semester studies from January or July 2023. Along with regular courses in the digital university, there will also be courses based on skill, employment. Along with this, employed people will also be able to easily take admission in this university to increase their skills.
A lot of effort has also been made to tie up with foreign universities, are the rules being changed?
Several important steps are being taken by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Government of India towards internationalization of the Indian higher education system. These steps are being taken keeping in mind the National Education Policy 2020. Discussions are going on regarding UGC regulations, joint and dual degree programs for academic collaboration between Indian and foreign higher educational institutions. There have also been talks with Australian High Commission officials. There will also be talks with many other foreign universities. UGC is making guidelines. In the coming time, campuses of foreign universities can also open in the country.
UGC is making a portal for the recruitment of teachers.
Right now the applicant has to apply for the teaching post in different universities and it is a long process for the universities as well. The portal which is being prepared, the universities will be registered on it and information about all the posts will be there. Applicants will also register themselves and they will get information about the vacant posts of every university. This will make it easier for the applicant. His application will reach different universities. UGC will also get the information about the vacant and filled posts in every university easily.
