Delhi : Lychee is as beautiful to look at, as sweet to eat. Along with mango, this fruit is also eagerly awaited. The waiting hours are over. Litchi has started reaching the markets of Delhi. Right now litchi is coming from Muzaffarpur in Bihar, which is famous all over the world. Thousands of tonnes of litchi are sent abroad every year from here. However, this time the heat has had a bad effect on the litchi crop. The flowers fell due to the heat. Its effect is also visible in Azadpur Mandi of Delhi.

Less arrival of litchi in Azadpur mandi
Pankaj Chawla, a wholesale trader of litchi, said that litchi is being sold in the market from Rs 80 to Rs 130 per kg. At the same time, consumers are getting litchi for Rs 150 to 200 in the retail market. This year the summer came prematurely, due to which a lot of flowers fell in the beginning. Lychee also needs a little cooler weather. The litchi season of Bihar is from May to June. After that litchi comes from Ramnagar in Uttarakhand in Delhi. Then the litchi of Pathankot reaches Delhi. At present, only 10 to 15 vehicles are coming to the market every day, whereas in the season 50 vehicles used to come daily.

Litchi costlier than last year
Pankaj said that this time the rate is also higher than last year. In 2021, the price of litchi was from Rs 70 to Rs 100 per kg. Pankaj told that the maintenance of litchi has to be done with great care from trees to street vendors. There are a lot of bats in the litchi orchard, which eat litchi. At the same time, after the fruit is removed, it is carefully kept in the boxes. Transport has to be done with care. The fruit has to be given moisture till it reaches the consumers. It is very delicate. If the skin turns black, then buyers are not found soon. Chilled litchi is very tasty, which is liked by many people. The maximum crop of litchi in Bihar is 20 percent. In such a situation, it is not easy to get the expenses from farmers to traders this year.

Litchi business closed after July 15
In Bihar, there were hailstorms at the beginning of the litchi crop. During that time grain formation had started. At the same time, this time the litchi of Uttarakhand and Punjab is also weak. Bihari’s box is coming in 800 to 1500 rupees, which is 20 to 21 kg. It contains 17 to 18 kg of cargo. Litchi of Muzaffarpur runs from May 10 to June 15.
