Goyal meets UK International Trade Minister regarding FTA


New Delhi, Jan 13 (PTI) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday met Britain’s International Trade Minister Anne Marie Trevelyan here to formally start talks on a free trade agreement (FTA).

The two sides will discuss various business opportunities of mutual interest benefiting India and the UK.

“Met with UK’s Minister of International Trade Anne Marie Trevelyan to kick-start talks on India-UK Free Trade Agreement,” Goyal tweeted.

The objective of this agreement is to liberalize norms and reduce customs duties to promote trade in goods and services, apart from promoting investment.

India’s exports to Britain in 2020-21 stood at $ 8.15 billion and imports from Britain stood at $ 4.95 billion.
