Goyal asks FCI to improve performance, change perception


New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) Food Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday asked the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to improve its functioning through use of technology and change the perception among the public of being incompetent and corrupt.

He stressed on the need to improve India’s ranking in the Global Hunger Index by adding nutritional value to people’s diet.

Goyal was addressing a program organized on the 58th Foundation Day of FCI through video conference.

Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Goyal said that FCI was established in 1965 in Thanjavur city of Tamil Nadu and has come a long way in realizing the dream of self-reliant India, according to an official statement.

He further said that there is scope for improvement in its transparency and directed FCI to prepare an action plan for better supply to the people.

He said that the perception of FCI among the public is that of incompetent and corrupt, which has to be changed to dynamic, inclusive and honest.
