Government gave 50% rebate in revenue share to encourage gas extraction from coal: Joshi

Mumbai, May 6 (PTI) Union Minister for Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi on Friday said the government has given 50 per cent rebate in revenue share to promote extraction of gas from coal.

“The Ministry of Coal has taken the initiative to provide coal gasification and subsidized coal for this sector,” the Union Minister said at an investor conference. Under this, it is proposed to reduce the revenue share by 50 percent for commercial auction of coal blocks.

Joshi also emphasized on options like making hydrogen from coal to help India’s energy self-sufficiency.

Coal gasification is considered a cleaner alternative than burning coal.
