Gaddafi’s son protested the rejection of his candidacy in the presidential elections in Libya

The son of the ex-leader of Libya, Muammar Gaddafi, Seif al-Islam Gaddafi, appealed the decision of the Supreme Election Commission, excluded him from among the candidates for the presidential elections. In total, the commission rejected 25 applications out of 98. Elections are scheduled for December 24 in Libya.

The team of Muammar Gaddafi’s son said that his appeal was supposed to be considered today, November 25, but unknown armed men in uniform attacked the courthouse. “The appeal was filed because Seif al-Islam was excluded from participation in the presidential elections on the basis of two articles (electoral legislation .— “B”), to which he has nothing to do, “- said RIA Novosti member of the team of the politician Muhammad al-Kalyushi.

The Supreme Election Commission said that they rejected the application of Seif al-Islam Gaddafi due to the fact that he did not provide a document confirming that he had no outstanding criminal record. In addition, according to the commission, he violated the requirement that a presidential candidate “cannot be convicted of crimes of honor.” What crime in question is not specified.

Presidential and parliamentary elections are to be held in Libya on December 24, but appropriate laws must be passed to hold them. The State Council did not approve the norms proposed by parliament and called for the postponement of the elections until 2023.
