Foxconn’s Tamil Nadu plant resumes operations

Chennai, Jan 12 (PTI) Foxconn, the maker of devices for Apple’s iPhones, on Wednesday resumed operations at its manufacturing facility near Chennai.

Official sources informed about the resumption of operations at the Foxconn campus at Sriperumbudur, adjacent to Chennai. Work at the residential center at the plant site was closed for more than three weeks due to workers’ protests following an incident of food poisoning.

Private buses were seen ferrying the employees to and from the Sriperumbudur campus. During this, the employees were wearing masks in view of the increasing infection of Kovid-19.

A government source told PTI, “On the first day around 200 employees will come to work. We have been told that the plant will initially operate in two shifts.

Tamil Nadu Industries Minister Thangam Thenarasu said the government was happy that the issue was resolved and the plant resumed operations.

Earlier on January 10, Foxconn Technology Group had said that it had taken a number of corrective steps and would gradually start bringing workers back to the factory.

The unit has more than 15,000 employees involved in the manufacturing of Apple products.
