For who will be permanent, a selection board will be formed, which will select the soldiers on the basis of their professional competence. According to an officer, just as officers progress in rank according to their ability, in the same way soldiers will also be permanent according to their merit. Even among the officers who come under the short service commission, only about 20-25% get permanent commission.

Six months training
The method of recruitment of soldiers will remain the same as it has been till now. There is also a plan to gradually change it later. Later, by changing the pattern for recruitment, the written test can be done first and the physical test later. The youth who will come under Tour of Duty will undergo basic military training for six months. Usually youth will join the army at 18 years and if they leave after four years, their age will be 21-22 years. After leaving the army, these youths can do other jobs, so during the four years of service, they will also be given professional degree and diploma courses. When the youth are recruited, they will get a salary of about 30 thousand rupees.

Under TOD, soldiers will neither get pension nor will they get the benefit of any health scheme like ECHS when they are out of the army. But when he is out after four years of service, he will be given a lump sum of about Rs 10-12 lakh. If a soldier dies on duty while in service, the family will get around Rs 45-50 lakh as insurance amount. The family will also get the salary of the balance service left.

After the TOD is implemented, the age profile will reduce and the army will become more youthful. Four to five years after the implementation of TOD, the average age of soldiers will be 25-26 years.
