Electricity consumption grew by 13.6 percent to 132.98 billion units in April

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) Electricity consumption in the country grew by 13.6 per cent year-on-year to 132.98 billion units (BU) in April, according to data from the Ministry of Power. The ministry said that this increase was due to the onset of summer and spurt in economic activities.

In April last year, the electricity consumption was 117.08 BU, as compared to 84.55 BU in the same month of 2020.

On the other hand, peak power demand in April this year was at an all-time high of 207.11 GW. The peak demand for electricity is the highest supply in a single day. This demand was 182.37 GW in April 2021 and 132.73 GW in April 2020.

Electricity consumption and demand were affected in April 2020 due to the lockdown implemented to prevent the corona virus epidemic.

Experts believe that there has been an unexpected increase in the consumption and demand of electricity. This is mainly due to the onset of summer and spurt in economic activity. He has forecast an increase in power consumption in the coming months.
