Delhi airport was world’s second busiest in March: OAG report

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) Delhi airport was the world’s second busiest airport in March in terms of domestic and international flights, the Official Airline Guide (OAG) said in its recent report, which provides global travel statistics.

“Atlanta remains in first place, with Dubai trailing Delhi this month (March) which was third last month (February),” the OAG report said.

Delhi airport was ranked 23rd in March 2019 before the corona pandemic. The report said that in March this year, the airports of Atlanta in the US, Delhi in India and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates received 44.2 lakh passengers, 36.1 lakh passengers and 35.5 lakh passengers respectively.

Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, Chief Executive Officer, Delhi Airport International Limited (DIAL) said in a statement, “The COVID-19 pandemic had severely affected the world. Travel restrictions had adversely affected the travel and tourism sectors for two consecutive years. “

But now, with the increase in the number of people who have been vaccinated around the world, governments are easing travel restrictions and gradually opening up their borders, he said. “India opened its borders last month and allowed fully vaccinated international travelers to enter the country,” he said.

He said that these steps have helped the travel and tourism industry a lot and given the necessary boost to air travel.
