Cyclone Not To Make Landfall In Odisha, Andhra | Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The possible cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal is not to make landfall either in Odisha or Andhra Pradesh but recurve and change path after the evening of May 10, informed Director General of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, on Saturday.

He informed that the Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea has intensified into a Depression over southeast Bay of Bengal. It will further intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over eastcentral Bay of Bengal on May 8.

The Cyclonic Storm is very likely to continue to move northwestwards till the evening of May 10 and reach Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh & Odisha coasts.

Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move towards Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast.

Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall is very likely to commence from the evening of May 10 at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha and heavy rainfall (7 -11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, and Puri.

On May 11, light to moderate rainfall is very likely at many places over the districts of coastal Odisha and heavy rainfall (7-11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack.

Gale wind speed reaching 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph is likely to prevail around the system center over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest & Eastcentral Bay of Bengal on May 10 and wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph is likely to prevail over and northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal on May 11.

Sea condition is likely to become high over central parts of Bay of Bengal on May 9; over Westcentral & adjoining Northwest and Eastcentral Bay of Bengal on May 10, and over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal on May 11.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea area over central parts of Bay of Bengal on May 9 and 10 and over Northwest Bay of Bengal on May 10 and 11. Fishermen whoever out at sea have been advised to return to coast by morning of May 10 and advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast from May 11 till further notice.
