CIL increases coal supply to power sector by 16% in April

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) said it increased its supply of coal to the power sector by 15.6 per cent to 49.7 million tonnes last month.

The company said this was done due to the increasing demand for coal in power plants and further measures are being taken to augment the supply.

This statement of CIL comes at a time when many parts of the country are facing power crisis.

“Amidst the ever-increasing demand for coal for power generation, CIL increased its supply to power plants in the country to 49.7 million tonnes in April 2022,” the company said. This figure is 67 lakh tonnes more than April 2021.

Along with increasing the production, CIL is planning to increase the supply for the power plants in the coming months.

Coal India contributes more than 80 percent of the domestic coal production.
