He said that this rate of GST should be levied on gross or net valuation, …..this decision will be taken after further deliberation at the officer level.
Currently, the GST rate on casinos, horse racing and other online gaming is 18 per cent.
In May last year, the government had constituted a committee of state ministers for better evaluation of GST on casinos, online gaming portals and horse racing services.
The Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma discussed the GST rate on such services in its meeting on Monday.
“There is a consensus that services like casinos, racecourses and online gaming should attract a maximum rate of 28 per cent GST,” Bhattacharya said.
“The committee of officers will take further consideration and give a report within 10 days regarding levy of GST on gross or net value,” he said. After this, the Group of Ministers will meet again and take a decision.
The report of the GoM is likely to be considered in the next meeting of the GST Council to be held later this month.
