AC sales reached a record in April with mercury rising

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) With the onset of summer, the demand for home use air conditioners (ACs) has increased significantly. In April this year, the sales of major AC companies have reached a record level and this trend is expected to continue in the future as well.

Companies such as Voltas, Panasonic, Hitachi, LG and Haier have registered record growth in AC sales in the last month.

According to industry players, in April last year, due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of lower base and exit from suppressed demand due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has boosted the sales figures.

He said that AC sales in April this year have crossed the pre-pandemic level of April, 2019.

Pradeep Bakshi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Voltas, told PTI, “The AC industry in April, 2022 has seen an ‘extraordinary’ growth in terms of sales as compared to the same month last year. This time the sales have increased by more than 100 percent due to the heat and low base of sales due to extreme heat and last year’s lower base effect.

Panasonic India Business Head Gaurav Sah said the company has registered record demand this year and sold over one lakh ACs during April.

“We are seeing record demand for air conditioners. Panasonic India sold over 1,00,000 units this April, which is up 83 per cent over April 2021 and 67 per cent over April 2019.

In addition, sales of Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning India, which sells ACs under the Hitachi brand, nearly doubled last month as compared to April 2021.

The company expects a record sales of Rs 1,500 crore in this category during the peak season.
