78 percent of Indian companies became victims of ransomware in 2021: Report

New Delhi, May 4 (PTI) Around 78 per cent of Indian companies became victims of ransomware in 2021, with some spending over Rs 76 crore to get their data back.

According to a report by cyber security company Sophos, on average, Indian companies paid Rs 9 crore to get their data back after falling victim to ransomware, while 10 percent of companies had to spend one million dollars or more.

The company found in its survey that 48 percent of Indian companies that were hit by ransomware paid five thousand dollars.

At the same time, three companies in the survey admitted that they had to spend $10 million or more to get their data back.
